Speaker: Steven Henkind navigator and navigation instructor on the USCGC EAGLE (and TBSK member) will present:
TITLE: How to Read, Prepare and Use a Nautical Chart.
DESCRIPTION: Nautical charts contain a wealth of information and are an essential tool for coastal navigation. However, they can also be confusing, and even misleading, if you don't know what to look for. In this class we focus on three areas which will help you to get more value from charts: 1) How to read them (e.g., date, depth, distance, bearings, ATONS, Coverage), 2) Chart preparation (in the Coast Guard every chart is prepared before being used ... some of these techniques are extremely useful, if not essential, for small boats - e.g., kayaks), 3) Use of a chart underway (especially correlating reality vs. theory).
