We will launch at 10:00a.m. because of tidal timing to paddle to the south end of Caladesi Island and then proceed north through mangrove trails to the remains of the Scharrer Homestead for lunch. There are 2 picnic tables and historic markers but no other facilities. The lunch stop take out is one boat wide so we’ll take out then move kayaks to make room for all paddlers. We will return by way of more mangrove trails, then the open water back to the Causeway.
This trip is Level II for distance, approx 8 miles. Kayaks must be 16 feet long have deck lines and water tight hatches. No inflatable PFD please. Spray skirt is highly recommended for the mangroves trails so any twigs, small mangrove crabs and spiders stay outside of your boat. Some agility skills in your kayak may be needed for low branches over the trails. Bring sunscreen, hat, water, bug spray and lunch.
