The Tampa Bay Frogman Swim is a 5k open water swim across Tampa Bay that is a fundraiser for the Navy SEAL Foundation. The event is seeking kayakers to support the swimmers on Jan. 17.
Each swimmer is required to have an individual kayak escort for both safety and navigation concerns. Most kayakers will be assigned a specific swimmer and are responsible for staying with the swimmer the entire distance. There will be other kayakers assigned to each wave as "rovers" to assist other kayakers and swimmers.
YOU MUST PROVIDE YOUR OWN KAYAK AND REQUIRED SAFETY EQUIPMENT and you must be at least 18 YEARS OLD. YOU MUST BE AN EXPERIENCED OPEN WATER KAYAKER AS THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR ROUGH CONDITIONS AND THE SWIMMERS DEPEND ON THE KAYAKER FOR COURSE NAVIGATION AND LIFE SAFETY.
This is not a TBSK sponsored event but it is for a good cause. Swimmers are required to participate in fundraising, but it is not mandatory for kayakers.
