Fred Howard to Anclote for Light House Open House 

Climb up to top of Light House

(This is an impromptu paddle, not in newsletter, suggested by a member)

When: Saturday June 16th 2018 8:30 AM, EDT, Weather - Conditions Permitting.  Meet at 8:30 to paddle when all who have registered arrive.

Where: Fred Howard Causeway.  North End — Parking Fee

Description: Paddle To Anclote Light House (see below Additional information)

Location: Fred Howard Causeway, North End

Courtesy of the “Friends of Anclote Key” there will be a PUBLIC OPEN HOUSE of the light house.  If you have never climbed, it is worth the trip! Open to all ages, but be aware this involves 127 STEEP stairs.  Those who would like to can go to the Open House.  If you do so you will be leaving the Club paddle. Bring a cell phone and or VHF Radio. We will TRY call and you when we will be paddling back. You can join us or paddle by yourself.  You need the skills to paddle solo in open water if you leave the paddle to go to the light House!

Heavy boat traffic is expected

Weather … possibility always exists of pop up storms in the area.  Should one occur Club paddle will make a decision to paddle back or wait it out.

Difficulty: Level III, distance about 8 miles in open water, may be choppy, MUST have solid open water skills and maintain 3 to 4 mph pace There will considerable boat traffic going to the Open House. Additionally we will be crossing the inland Boat channel.  (See Skills Self Assessment Chart link below for level assignment)

Required: Sea kayak at least 16' with water-tight bulkheads, decklines, and spray deck; no inflatable PFDs. Bring lots of water/sports drink, lunch, sunscreen.

Must register on the web site or RSVP to the trip leader to allow notification of any changes.
