Description: TBSK has always cared about giving back to help keep nature free of debris. While this is not a TBSK sponsored event, some of us are volunteering to help with a Keep Pinellas Beautiful project of cleaning up trash found along part of the Pinellas Trail. All volunteers will meet Aug 3, Sat., at 8:30 a.m. at the Clearwater Shuffleboard Club parking lot (1020 Calumet St, Clearwater - 1/2 block off Ft. Harrison) to sign KPB liability release forms, get your map of areas to be cleaned and pick up tools supplied by KPB. They will have trash bags, surgical gloves, grabbers, and a few wader boots. We recently paddled Stevenson Creek (which dumps into the Intercoastal Canal at Sunset Point Rd) and found that the creek itself was relatively clean - so no need to bring your boats for this event.. The area from the water line to about 20 feet up the bank is littered with trash, almost all cannot be reached by a boater, even when equipped with a grabber. Much of the trash is located in the mangroves along the creek, where it is mucky - thus the need for boots. Some of the banks are a bit steep, so walking sticks can also be helpful. We encourage you to come and volunteer your time for this worthy event.
