Description:  Let’s watch the sun sink into Gulf waters from Apollo Beach after exploring the protected waters of the preserve on a 2-3 mile paddle.  The area is known for great birding.  Be sure to bring your camera for wildlife and sunset shots.

Location: We’ll launch and take out at the beach at Apollo Beach Preserve, 6760 Surfside Boulevard in Apollo Beach.

Schedule: Meet at 4:00 p.m. for a 4:30 launch.  Anticipate finishing up around 6:15-6:30 p.m.

Additional information:

  • Parking is free.
  • There’s a bit of a walk between parking lot and launch.  Bring kayak wheels if you have them.   We’ll share ours and help each other out.
  • If you have a headlamp or flashlight, bring it just to be safe.  We don’t expect to stay out until absolute dark though.
  • This trip is capped at 10 paddlers.

COVID-related recommendations:

  • Wear face masks or buffs while loading/unloading boats and gear at the park.
  • To minimize contact among the group, pair up with another paddler for the day if help is needed moving boats between vehicles and launch.
  • Bring biodegradable hand soap and hand sanitizer for use after handling someone else’s boat on or off the water.

Difficulty: This is a recreational trip open to all paddlers.

Required gear: Wear a PFD, bring water to drink, and you might need to dress in layers for warmth.  Refer to TBSK’s Skills Self Assessment Chart and contact the leader with any questions. Please register (or cancel) on the website or RSVP to the trip leader to allow notification of any changes.
