Trip title: Howard to Anclote Keys (Level 2)

Trip leader: Dave Schmidt,  dave@tbsk.club,  608-842-0135 (h)

Description: Launching from Fred Howard Beach we'll paddle the length of the Anclote National Wildlife Refuge on the east side of Anclote Island.  We'll make a stretch stop at the north end and a longer one near the state park pier at the south end.  There we'll take the time for a lunch as well as a walk to the lighthouse and casually explore the area.

Location: North end of Fred Howard Park, 1700 Sunset Dr, Tarpon Springs, FL

Schedule: Meet at 9:00, ready to paddle at 9:30.   Return likely after 2:30 pm (how often do you get to stroll around Anclote Key?)

Additional information: Fred Howard is a Pinellas County Park so $5 daily fee if you don't have the annual pass.

Difficulty:  It's a 2.5 mile open water crossing to Anclote Island where rough water and challenging winds may be encountered. Approx. 10 miles, level 2 (in good conditions)

Current forecast is for sunny and SSW winds 7mph.  Tides favorable with high 2'3" @ 11:12a, low 0'10" @ 4:17p.

Required / suggested / restricted Crossing open water so sea kayaks over 15 feet, with bulkheads,  wear sprayskirt. Must be experienced with a wet exit and comfortable in choppy conditions. Bring lunch.
