Registration

  • Up-and-back trip of about 8.5 miles

Registration is closed

Trip leader: Jill Lingard, jill.lingard@gmail.com, 352-665-1776

Description:  We’ll paddle the springs and tidal creeks of the Chassahowitzka River: Seven Sisters, Blue, The Crack, Salt Creek Head Spring, Ruth, and Potter.  If we reach them all, our tour will be about 8.5 miles.  We can cut the trip shorter than that depending on the group’s preferences.  Our return journey to the launch will require paddling against a little tidal current.

Location: We’ll launch and take out at Chassahowitzka River Campground, located at 8600 W Miss Maggie Drive in Chassahowitzka.

Schedule: Meet at 9:00 a.m. for a 9:30 launch.  Anticipate finishing up around 2:00 p.m.

Additional information:

  • Parking is $5 for vehicles with no trailers, $7 for vehicles with trailers.
  • If the weather is warm, bring a mask and snorkel to get a closer look at the springs.

COVID-related recommendations:

  • Wear face masks or buffs while loading/unloading boats and gear at the park.
  • To minimize contact among the group, pair up with another paddler for the day if help is needed moving boats between vehicles and launch.
  • Bring biodegradable hand soap and hand sanitizer for use after handling someone else’s boat on or off the water.

Difficulty: This is a Level 2 trip based on potential mileage and paddling against current on the return trip.  Tidal change is just 0.5’, so current should be manageable.

Required gear: Wear a PFD, bring lunch and water to drink, and you might need to dress in layers for warmth.  Refer to TBSK’s Skills Self Assessment Chart and contact the leader with any questions. Please register (or cancel) on the website or RSVP to the trip leader to allow notification of any changes.
