Schedule/Location: Meet Andy Bartley at the Arrowhead picnic area in Ft Desoto Park at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30 for a 9:30 launch.
Description: We will launch from Arrowhead picnic area for a 2.5-mile paddle north along the outside of Shell Key. Entering Irma Pass will take us to a nice beach for swimming/rescue/rolling practice/relaxing/socializing. The return trip may take us through a mangrove tunnel. We will start heading back by about 12:00 and finish by 1:00. Total mileage is about 6-8 miles depending on route.
As this weekend is expected to be very hot, please prepare appropriately. Plenty of cold drinks are a very good idea.
Requirements: Sea kayak with watertight hatches and bulkheads. Spray skirt required. This is a Level 2 trip and will require us to cross a busy boat channel twice.
