Ft. Desoto – Arrow Head Picnic Area around Shell Key

Description: We'll paddle north from Arrow Head Picnic Area at Ft. Desoto on the east side of Shell Key through the Pass-a-Grille south channel and return south on the gulf side of Shell Key. We’ll take a break at the channel entrance to stretch out our legs. Plan to return by 11:30 for Picnic Lunch starting at noon.
Location: Arrow Head Picnic Area – Ft. Desoto Park

Schedule: Saturday, April 15th. Meet at 9:00 with a departure time of 9:30
Additional information: Everyone without an annual pass to Ft. Desoto will have to pay the day use fee, no water connections are available for boat cleaning.
Difficulty: Level II, distance of 6 miles, some in open water, may be choppy, must have open water skills (See Skills Self Assessment Chart link below for level assignment)
Required: Sea kayak at least 15' with water-tight bulkheads, deck lines, and spray deck; no inflatable PFDs. Bring lots of water/sports drink, snacks, and sunscreen.
