Much like the Tampa Bay area, Houston, also known as “Bayou City” is a kayakers paradise filled with a wide variety of beautiful waterways such as lakes, rivers, bays, and of course, bayous!

Come join us November 14th, 7pm at Cage Brewing as we welcome Chris Arceneaux, president of HASK (Houston Association of Sea Kayakers). He will kick off his presentation detailing how he fell in love with kayaking while living in Louisiana and what made him trade in his pirogue for a kayak.

We will also learn about HASK, the many kayaking destinations throughout Texas and Louisiana, and the exciting races held annually throughout the area.

Chris Arceneaux Bio: Having grown up in a Louisiana community surrounded by water it was natural for every kid to get acquainted with a pirogue, a cajun-style canoe. But water skiing and girls diverted his attention from paddle craft. Later the distraction became fishing. After paddling a kayak for the first time in 1989 at Ft. Desoto Park and bouncing in the surf at Bunces Pass, a kayak made sense for getting closer to the fish.

Fast forward to the mid ‘90’s Chris was focused on kayak fishing, but wanting to go further and faster he built a stitch ‘n glue kayak in 2000. The same boat he grabs first on touring trips.  Chris and his family moved to Houston and soon joined the Houston Association of Sea Kayakers, a.k.a. HASK.

Chris became a trip leader, later fleet captain, and now president.  He never forgot Mullet Key, Bunces Pass and Egmont Key. Over the years Chris has organized events in the Florida Big Bend, St. Joe, Calusa Blueway and most recently to Cayo Costa. Chris is leading a contingent from Houston & Colorado to Ft. Desoto Park in early December. Please join him and his friends.

Tonight, we’ll share the kayaking destinations of Texas and Louisiana. Et merci beaucoup for the invite!
