TBSK Monthly Training - "Kayak Olympics"

• Forward, reverse, steering, sideways movement, bracing ... we'll review it all!  ...  Then, "Let the games begin!"
• We're also trying things a little different. To encourage more participation in trainings and help more people enjoy the social time of our monthly picnic-paddles, we're doing this month's training "off cycle."  Let the trip leaders know how this works for you!

Difficulty: All levels are welcome.  We will have the ability to differentiate instruction for a range of skill levels.  Introductory for beginners, nuance for the experienced.  Fun for all.

Location: 

• War Veterans Memorial Park
• 9600 Bay Pines Blvd, St. Petersburg, FL 33708; Google Map.
• Meet in grassy areas adjacent to Canoe/Kayak Launch; look for signs for Shelter #5 "The Point."

Schedule: 

• 9 a.m. = "paddle ready" (kayak staged, kitted up, circled up)
• 12 p.m. = off the water/training wrap-up
• 12:30 p.m. = lunch and social (optional)
  

Additional information: Public restrooms, water, and picnic tables are available. 

Required / suggested / restricted:

• Equipment: kayak 14’ or longer w/sealed bulkheads, paddle, PFD (worn), whistle (on PFD), spray skirt is recommended, other rescue kit at individual discretion.  
• Clothing: Sun protective quick dry clothing, water shoes (rugged sole, closed toe/heal, secure fit, no flip flops).
• Other: Water/hydration, sunblock, drybag for valuables, emergency medications (inform the trip leader), snacks/lunch (optional).

Optional Social/Lunch Note:

• We can't get a shelter reservation, so we'll see what we get.  If everything's taken, and if participants are okay with it, we may do our hang out at Pipo's Cuban Cafe across the street from War Veterans Memorial Park. We'll decide this when we get off the water.
