Navigation Review and Explore Anclote River and Beyond
Meet trip leader Jill Mosteller at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, to launch at 9:30 from the Anclote River Park.
To start, we'll meet at the picnic shelter just east of the swimming area along with Al's L1 group. There we'll have a short refresher training session on coastal kayak navigation. We'll have some laminated charts to share, but feel free to also bring your own if you want.
After the navigation review session, we'll launch from the small beach near the picnic shelter (the "usual spot"). We'll paddle from Anclote River Park to the south of the channel toward spoil islands, then head north toward South Anclote to explore nature, sea, and wildlife. Time permitting, we'll stop on South Anclote for a break before returning.
Location: Anclote River Park beach launch (as you approach boat ramp veer left to picnic area with a beach launch).
Schedule: Saturday, Sept 21, 2024 Meet at 9:00am, launch by 9:30am approximate return time- noon.
Additional information: Kayaks 15’ or longer with sealed hatches and spray skirt required. Wet exit skills required. Bring plenty of water and a snack.
Difficulty: L2 due to distance of 5-6 miles, open water crossings and potential wind.
Required / suggested / restricted: Required min 15’ kayak with sealed hatches, PFDs worn with spray skirt. Suggested: Water, sunscreen, closed-water shoes, a snack and a smile.
