POST-HURRICANE RAINBOW RIVER FROLIC - Level 2

Date: Saturday, October 19.  Meet at 9AM for a 9:30 launch.  We should finish up around 1-2PM, depending on how much the group wants to explore.

Trip Leaders:  Jill Lingard (352-665-1776) & Scott Jantz (386-853-5159)

Description:  Anyone else craving some time away from hurricane debris?  Let's decompress on the beautiful spring-fed Rainbow River.  We'll launch from Blue Run Park, located at 19680 E Pennsylvania Avenue in Dunnellon, paddle upstream to the headspring, then back down to Blue Run.

If you enjoy snorkeling, the Rainbow is a wonderful river for it.  There are dozens of colorful freshwater fish species, colorful submerged vegetation, and it's not unusual to spot some otters.  If this sounds like fun, bring a mask, snorkel, fins, and a line to tow your boat with.  Trip leaders can help you get back in your kayak.  We can also wade up the lovely run to Gissy Spring.  Or practice rolls, rescues--you name it. The Rainbow will be our playground!

Be sure to bring:  As always, bring and wear your PFD.   Bring plenty to drink and snack on while paddling.  For those who are interested, we can gather at Swampy's Restaurant for some post-paddle nosh.

Difficulty:  The Level 2 rating is for distance (~10 miles roundtrip).  Note that half of that will be against the current, which is usually very manageable.  Kayaks of at least 14' are
