Florida Humanities with the Tampa Bay Sea Kayakers.present Florida Culture and Manatees with Steve Noll!
Tuesday, Dec 10, 2024 via Zoom at 7pm
We love them...the big bellies and whiskers...soft, gentle eyes...when we see the water start to spread in an oblong/round shape...we say...is there a manatee below? Manatee sightings add delight to any paddle. But it was not always that way. Let's learn more about how this love affair started with our manatee guide and historian, Steven Noll, (history professor at the University of Florida and author of Ditch of Dreams, the prize winning book about the Cross Florida Barge Canal .) Professor Noll will go deep and roll around with the history of Florida culture surrounding this 'sea cow' that adorns our waters and how we have come to love this creature
