Level 2 Picnic Day Paddle: Howard Park to Anclote Key

Description:  We'll launch from Fred Howard Park and paddle towards the south end of Anclote Key.  If conditions allow, we can paddle along the outside of Anclote...or travel north on the inside and explore the mangroves. We can take a stretch break on the island or practice rolls or rescues before turning back to Howard Park.  We'll strive for about a 10-mile paddle and can alter our route depending on wind and water conditions.

Location:  Fred Howard Park, 1700 Sunset Drive in Tarpon Springs.  Unless you have a Pinellas County Parks parking pass, there will be a $6.35 parking fee payable via the Park Mobile app (zone # 93813).

Schedule:   Meet at 8:30AM for a 9:00 launch.  We'll aim to eturn around 11:30 so have time to load boats and gather for the picnic.

Difficulty:  Level 2 for potentially choppy open water and mileage

Paddling Requirements:  

• Kayaks of at least 15' with decklines and bulkheads or bow/stern flotation
• Paddlers should wear PFDs, spray skirts, close-toed paddling shoes, and dress for immersion--Gulf waters are in the low 60's.
• Bring plenty to drink and a snack.  We'll likely take a stretch break on Anclote Key.
• If you have any medical issues that may impact your paddling, please notify leaders before the trip so that they can be best equipped to assist you as needed.
